Neighbourhood Watch

In 1964 the first Neighbourhood Watch schemes were formed in New York, America as a Community response to the murder of Kitty Genovese. It was 1982 before the first scheme was established in the UK, this movement took place in Mollington, Cheshire, and was known as Home Watch. Throughout the years the movement grew and more and more like minded individuals sought out and joined their local NHW schemes, set in the motive to reduced crime and make their neighbourhoods safer for their communities.

In 2007 Neighbourhood Watch formed a National Body through representatives formed from local, county and regional groups. This was supported by the Home Office and Police forces across the country and the first national umbrella movement was created. Since then the Network as expanded substantially and members from all walks of life have united with the one common goal to reduce crime in their communities.
